UPDATE: Robbery Suspect Causes Crash, Knocks Down Traffic Signal

SAN ANGELO, TX — A robbery suspect being pursued by police resulted in a two-vehicle crash that knocked down a traffic signal at one of San Angelo’s busiest intersections Wednesday afternoon.

At about noon, two cars collided at the intersection of West Beauregard Avenue and South Abe Street.

The wreck sent one of the cars careening into the traffic signal, which caused it to fall into the roadway on Abe Street.

According to a traffic officer with the San Angelo Police Department, officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress on the east side of town at about 11:50 a.m. in the 300 block of North Schroeder Street.

As officers were approaching the scene, they located the suspect's vehicle leaving the area, and a short vehicle chase ensued, the officer stated.

A 24-year-old male suspect, Daniel Perez, was taken into police custody at the scene of the crash.

The suspect, along with the driver of the other vehicle, was transported to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Perez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading in a motor vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are pending.
