Alcohol Suspected in Fatal ATV Rollover that Killed Dublin Man

 

PROCTOR, TX - A Dublin man was killed in an ATV rollover near Proctor on Monday afternoon after reportedly consuming alcohol, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Eric Shane Covey, 43, was driving a 2015 Polaris Ranger on County Road 436 around 1:50 p.m. when he veered into a ditch and attempted to steer back onto the road. The vehicle rolled onto its side, and Covey was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine at 2:45 p.m.

Covey’s passenger, Deanna Darlene Montgomery, 28, also of Dublin, sustained a minor injury but declined medical treatment at the scene. Neither Covey nor Montgomery was wearing a seatbelt or helmet, authorities said.

The crash occurred under clear weather and dry road conditions. The posted speed limit in the area is 60 miles per hour.
