10-Month-Old Among Two Killed in Midland County Freightliner Crash

MIDLAND, TX — A 10-month-old infant and a 37-year-old woman were killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash at FM 1788 and CR 58, when a Toyota Highlander failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a Freightliner truck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

This happened just before 3:20 p.m. when Lazaro Rafael Reina Lenus, 51, of Odessa, was driving his 2018 Toyota Highlander when it was hit by a 2019 Freightliner driven by James Craig Butler, 61, of Midland.

Butler was not injured in the crash.

Both passengers in the Toyota, identified as Doria Hernandez Archila, 37, of Odessa, and the 10-month-old infant, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

Reina Lenus sustained minor injuries and was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
