San Antonio Woman Killed in Crash Involving Semi Near Baird

BAIRD, TX — A San Antonio woman was killed when her SUV collided with a truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer this morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened just before 8 a.m. at the US Highway 283 and State Highway 36 intersection, 12 miles south of Baird.

Benita Yadira Solis Rodriguez, 51, was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango when she failed to yield at a stop sign on U.S. Highway 283. Her vehicle was struck by a 2016 Western Star truck-tractor driven by 60-year-old Terrence Anthony Maughan of Dublin, Texas.

Despite wearing her seatbelt, Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Andi Holland.

Maughan and a 7-year-old child passenger were transported to Hendrick North Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Although Maughan attempted to avoid the collision, he was unable to do so.  All vehicles came to a stop off the roadway to the northwest of the intersection, according to DPS.

The crash occurred as Rodriguez was traveling north on US 283, while Maughan’s truck-tractor was traveling west on SH 36.

Weather conditions were clear, and the roads were dry at the time of the crash.
