SAN ANGELO, TX — On July 6, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a call came over the radio about a rollover crash on the Houston Harte Expressway near Bell Street. Upon arrival, the wreckage was so extensive that it initially appeared to involve two vehicles.
A light rain had just fallen, making the roads slick. This type of rain can lift the oil that has collected on the road during dry spells, making conditions particularly hazardous. According to dash cam footage, it was still sprinkling at the time of the incident.
A reader shared dash cam footage of the crash. The video begins as the driver pulls onto the service road. While ascending the entrance ramp to the Houston Harte, a white pickup truck passes by, followed by a light-colored sedan traveling at a significantly higher speed.
As the dash cam driver merges with the Houston Harte traffic, the sedan swerves in the inside lane. The rear end of the sedan continues to swerve, eventually causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a large sign. The impact propels the sedan into a rollover before it comes to rest in the center median.
We did not speak with traffic investigators at the scene, as the police were occupied. However, we observed an ambulance leaving the scene without sirens or lights. The condition of the occupants of the sedan remains unknown. Watch the dash cam footage here:
