Single-Vehicle Crash on IH-10 Near Junction Leaves One Dead

JUNCTION, TX — A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10, 8 miles east of Junction, resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man early Thursday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

This happened around 6:53 a.m. and involved a 2002 Toyota PreRunner driven by Nathaniel Naseir Nava of Alvin, Texas.

Nava, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Josh Cantrell.

Preliminary investigations by the Texas Highway Patrol indicate that Nava was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to change lanes between a witness's vehicle and a truck tractor. The Toyota exited the roadway on the left shoulder, and Nava's attempt to re-enter the road caused the front right wheel to catch the edge of the improved shoulder.

This led to the vehicle rolling over across the highway and into a tree line, where it eventually came to rest. Nava was ejected from the vehicle before it entered the tree line, and his body was found on a berm.

Weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the accident. No other injuries were reported.
