One Dead, One Injured in Nolan County Crash

SWEETWATER, TX —  A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred early this morning on State Highway 70, six miles south of Sweetwater, resulting in one death and one serious injury.

This happened around 6:41 a.m., when a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Israel Enrique G. Beltran, 26, of Colorado City, Texas, collided head-on with a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by Lio Acosta Acero, 62, of Midland, Texas.

Beltran, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Constable Stephen Smith. Acero, also wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Shannon Medical Center.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, preliminary investigations indicate that Beltran's vehicle, traveling north on SH 70, veered into the southbound lane, striking Acero's vehicle head-on.

The weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The posted speed limit on this stretch of the highway is 75 mph.
