SAN ANGELO— A deer caused a major crash on US 87 that caused significant damage to an SUV.
According to Jose Rivera of the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, at around 1:45 p.m. on May 16, 2024, the GCVFD, Tom Green County law enforcement, and emergency first responders were dispatched to the intersection of March Road and North US 87 for the report of a major vehicle crash.
Upon arrival to the scene, it was discovered that a Toyota 4-Runner SUV had struck a deer in the northbound lanes on US 87 and one person was transported to the hospital for injuries.
The deer was not as lucky as it was found dead in the median of the highway. It is unknown whether the deer was a buck or a doe.
The speed limit at the crash site is 75 mph.
Rivera also wanted to inform the public that when driving in the country, there is always a risk of striking wildlife and domesticated animals like goats, sheep, and cattle.
The roadways were wet at the time of the crash.
