Failure to Yield Right-of-Way Crash Leaves One Dead

BRECKENRIDGE, TX — A fatal crash in Breckenridge resulted in one fatality and left another injured on Sunday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash involved a 2009 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a 2017 blue Honda Civic.

It happened around 10:03 p.m. in the 3800 block of US Highway 180.

Authorities confirmed that 22-year-old Shayden Alexis Ramsey of Breckenridge, the driver of the Honda, was pronounced dead at Stephens County Memorial Hospital following the crash.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael West indicates the crash happened when Ramsey, exiting a parking lot drive, failed to yield the right of way to the westbound Chevrolet driven by 18-year-old Jayton Cole Read.

Read suffered non-incapacitating injuries and was treated and released. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The speed limit where the crash occurred is 50 miles per hour. Conditions at the time were clear, and the roads were dry.

Trooper Dale Escobedo also assisted in investigating the crash, which remains under review by the Texas Highway Patrol from the Eastland district.
