EASTLAND, TX – A crash on Farm to Market Road 2214 claimed the life of a Stanton woman early Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
It happened just west of Desdemona and involved a single vehicle and a pedestrian, resulting in one fatality and no injuries to the vehicle's driver.
The DPS reports that at 12:01 a.m. on April 3, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck, driven by 39-year-old Daniel Russell Piper of Eastland, struck 31-year-old Catelyn Brooke Jordan, who was found lying in the center of the eastbound lane.
Despite wearing a seatbelt and sustaining no injuries, Piper could not avoid the crash due to Jordan's position on the road, which was not visible to him at the time of the accident, DPS reported.
Justice of the Peace Joh Glenn pronounced Jordan dead at the scene.
It took place under clear weather conditions and on dry road surfaces, with the posted speed limit in the area being 45 miles per hour.
