BLUE ISLAND, IL — Gary Sinise, Forest Gump actor and activist, has announced the passing of his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, at the age of 33, after a battle with cancer. Mac Sinise succumbed to chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer, on Jan. 5, as shared by Sinise in an essay on his foundation’s website. Mac was diagnosed with chordoma in 2018, the same year Gary’s wife Moira was diagnosed with breast cancer.
In the essay, Sinise expressed the family's grief over Mac's passing but also found comfort in the knowledge that Mac was no longer in pain. Sinise praised Mac's strength and resilience throughout his battle with cancer.
The renowned actor, famous for his role in "The Green Mile," paid tribute to his son, highlighting Mac's contribution to the foundation and his passion for drumming. Mac had been drumming since the age of 9 and even performed alongside his father in Sinise’s group, The Lt. Dan Band.
Sinise shared, “In sharing our story, we hope to shine a little bit of light on what has been a difficult time for us as Mac was truly a light for all of us. An incredible inspiration to those who knew and loved him, he faced his battle with grace, courage, and love.”
Mac Sinise is survived by his two sisters and his parents.
