Fatal Crash in Runnels County Claims Life of Miles Teen

MILES, TX — A Miles teen and a Bronte man were killed in a major crash in Runnels County on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety, on February 17, 2024, at 2:26 p.m., a 1995 Ford Explorer was traveling on FM 3115, about 15 miles north of Miles. The driver, who has been officially identified was 27-year-old Ernest Joe Rose III of Bronte, drove off the right side of the road. He took evasive action by steering back towards the roadway which caused the vehicle to go into a side skid and flip over.

Both Rose and his passenger, a 15-year-old teenager from Miles, were ejected and DPS said they both were not wearing seatbelts.

The teenager and Rose were pronounced dead on the scene by Justice of the Peace David Sellers of Runnels County. The skies were clear and roads were dry at the time of the crash.
