Woman Dies in High Speed Crash Thursday


TYE, TX – A 38-year-old Merkel woman lost her live in a single vehicle crash outside Tye on IH-20 Thursday afternoon.  

According to information released Friday by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, Makenzie Liam Utley, 38, of Merkel, was driving her 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup eastbound on IH-20 about four miles west of Tye I Taylor County.  

The report shows that the pickup failed to stay in a single lane and drifted into the median crashing into a guardrail.  Utley was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The skies were clear at the time and the roadway was dry. Utley was wearing a seatbelt.
