Trucker Dies in Fiery Big Country Crash

EASTLAND, TX — A crash on Interstate 20 in Eastland County took the life of a 67-year-old truck driver from Fresno, CA, on Feb. 2 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The crash involved a single vehicle, identified as a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia truck tractor, towing a 2015 utility box trailer.

The driver of the vehicle, Reginald Van Wilson, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace John Glenn at 10:30 p.m.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that Freightliner was heading west on IH-20 at milepost 340 in the left lane.

The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.

For reasons yet to be determined, the truck drove off the south side of the highway, colliding with a guardrail. The impact caused both the truck and the attached trailer to catch fire.

Following the initial crash, the Freightliner continued its trajectory, crossing the center median into the eastbound lanes.

It struck a concrete barrier, obstructing both eastbound lanes of IH-20. According to DPS, the weather conditions at the time were cloudy and wet.
