Brownwood Man Killed in Comanche County Crash

COMANCHE, Texas - A Brownwood man was killed in a two vehicle crash on US-67 outside of Comanche Friday.

According to Texas Dept. of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, 30-year-old Sergio Vasquez Cardona of Brownwood was traveling east on US-67 seven miles east of Comanche around 7:45 a.m. Friday in his 2014 Dodge Ram pickup.

At the same time, Kolton Ponnie Edward Smith of Dublin, TX was traveling west on US-67 at the same stretch of road headed west in his 2000 Ford F150 pickup.  The investigation says Vasquez Cardona lost control of his pickup and swerved into the westbound lane crashing into the side of Smith's pickup.

Vasquez Cardona was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine.  Smith was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Stephenville with serious injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
