SAN ANGELO - On Friday, Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, Rick and Dora Garcia experienced a devastating loss—losing all of their possessions and their longtime home in San Angelo to a house fire.
In response to the situation, Jennifer Blunier established a GoFundMe fundraiser.
“Your donation, no matter how little, will help them recover from this terrible tragedy,” Blunier stated. “Please help them out by donating and sharing with others.”
As of Nov. 27, 2023 at 1:30 p.m., the fundraiser has received 36 donations, raising a total amount of $3,200. That is $1,800 short of the $5,000 goal. Information from the GoFundMe page states that the fire started after an explosion in the garage, which “quickly spread” to the home. The fire investigators have not released their findings.
“They were lucky to escape with their lives but lost everything in their home,” Blunier stated. “Rick and Dora are loving grandparents and parents to a caring family who always puts others first. They are currently staying with their daughter, Amanda.”
To donate, visit the GoFundMe page. It was previously reported that local residents said the fire was preceded by a loud explosion emanating from the rear of the affected house.
Witnesses said the homeowner had been working on a motorcycle when an apparent fuel overflow occurred during ignition, leading to the rapid spread of the fire.
It was also reported the blaze was visible from several blocks away. Initial speculations from neighbors pointed to the motorcycle in the garage as the fire's origin.
