Pedestrian Struck & Killed on US-67

BIG LAKE, TX – A 37-year-old man walking into town to get gas was struck and killed last Saturday on US-67 outside Big Lake.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Oct. 21, 2023, at around 8:53 p.m., troopers were dispatched to US HWY 67, near the 752-mile post, for the report of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Once on the scene, it was discovered that 37-year-old Junior Jones, of Big Spring, was found deceased in the roadway. Jones was pronounced dead on the scene by JP Patty Davenport.

At this point, the troopers' investigation has not identified a suspect. It is believed that Jones was walking eastbound on the shoulder of U.S. 67 toward Big Lake after his 2017 Silver Alfa Romeo Giulia had run out of gas.

An unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on U.S. 67 in the right lane near mile post 752 and struck Jones from behind. The vehicle fled the scene and failed to render aid.

If you or anyone you know has any information that could assist with this investigation, please contact Sergeant Justin Baker with the Texas Department of Public Safety at [email protected] or by calling (325) 223-6821.
