Drunk Brownwood Man Arrested for Fatal Crash in Ector County

ODESSA— A Brownwood man has been arrested for being intoxicated and causing a fatal crash in Ector County in February.

Primitivo Guerrero, 37, has been arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault after his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

The Department of Public Safety said that around midnight on February 19, 2023, DPS troopers responded to Highway 385 just north of Odessa. Juan Rodrigues, 23, was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Silverado and was struck by Guerrero who was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Rodrigues was found dead on scene and Auden Saenz, 20, his passenger, was transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

Guerrero was not able to do field sobriety tests and slurred his words. He told officials that Rodrigues had jumped the median and he was at fault. The area of the road where the crash occurred has a cable barrier to separate the lanes. When a blood alcohol test was performed, Guerrero had a blood alcohol level of 0.241.

Guerrero was arrested on August 15 on a warrant and was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center for Intoxication Manslaughter, Intoxication Assault, and Driving While Intoxicated. His bond is currently set at $40,000.
