Child Seriously Injured by Bus at School

 

MINERAL WELLS, TX - A child in Mineral Wells was flown to Cook's Children's Hospital Tuesday morning after he was struck by a city bus.

According to the Mineral Wells Police Department, on Aug. 15, 2023 at around 7:30 a.m., MWPD Officers and Mineral Wells Fire/EMS were dispatched to the 2000 block of SE 12th Street (Lamar Elementary), Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County, Texas regarding a child who was struck by a vehicle.

Officers and EMS arrived on scene where they immediately began rendering aid to the child.

MWPD Officers began conducting an investigation into the incident, while EMS continued treating the victim. The investigation found that a Public Transit Services Bus had been dropping the child off at Lamar Elementary for school. While the child was exiting the bus, the bus rolled forward striking the child.

The victim was transported by air ambulance to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. The child was alert and conscious at the time of transport. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, and further evidence is being obtained by the MWPD.

MWPD will be reviewing video footage from the school and from the on board video system in the Public Transit Bus. It is unknown at this time if any criminal charges will be filed.
