Big Rig Crash Leaves 2 Dead in Nolan County Tuesday

 

ROSCOE, TX — A crash at a dangerous intersection near Roscoe killed two people on Tuesday. 

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Aug. 1, 2023 at around 5 p.m., Texas DPS Troopers were dispatched the intersection of US 84 and Business US 84 for the report of a major crash. 

Once on scene, the troopers discovered a 2014 Lincoln MKZ and a 2015 Volvo semi truck pulling a trailer. 

The trooper’s investigation revealed the Lincoln was at the intersection of Business 84 and US 84 traveling southeast. The semi was traveling southeast on US 84-East.  The Lincoln failed to yield right of way from a stop sign, entering the intersection of Business 84 and US 84. The semi struck the Lincoln on the drivers side. 

The driver of the semi, Nelson Sierra De Jesus, 56, of Sweetwater, was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injury. He was treated and released. 

As for the driver and passenger of the Lincoln they were pronounced dead on scene by Justice of the Peace Angie Collier.

The driver has been identified as Lisa Merxbauer, 66, of San Antonio. The passenger has been identified as Robin Lawrence, 65, of Lubbock. Both occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
