Drunk Driver Killed & Several Severely Injured in SUV Crash

ABILENE – The driver of a Buick SUV was killed and several passengers were seriously injured in a single vehicle, high speed crash at a rural intersection near Abilene over the weekend.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, a 2011 Buick Enclave SUV driven by 48-year-old Demodrick Lamond Garrett of Abilene was traveling at a high rate of speed on FM-1082 approaching SH-351 around 2:15 a.m. July 12.  Evidence at the crash scene shows that Garrett disregarded the stop sign at the intersection into a barrow ditch on the south side of the road and then vaulted into a private driveway.

There were five individuals in the SUV and none of them were wearing seatbelts.

Garrett was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Garrett was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other passengers were all seriously injured and transported to area hospitals.
