Toddler Killed in Lunchtime Rollover Crash

 

CISCO, TX – One toddler was killed and one was seriously injured in a major crash on US 183 on outside Cisco in Eastland County Monday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on June 19, 2023 at around 12:15 p.m., DPS troopers were dispatched to the US 183 Highway, eight miles north of Cisco, for the report of a major crash. 

Troopers on scene and EMS discovered a 2017 Dodge Journey that had rolled over in a drainage culvert.  Four injuries were reported.

The driver, Nubia Castillo-Martinez, 42, of Graham, and a 5-year-old child were injured with incapacitating injuries. The passenger in the front seat Margarita Castillo, 67, of Graham, had non-incapacitating injuries and the final passenger, a 3-year-old was killed and pronounced dead on scene at 2 p.m.

The trooper's investigation revealed that the Journey was traveling north US 183 at milepost 322. The vehicle drifted off the roadway through the unimproved shoulder until striking a drainage culvert an overturning. Both children in the back seats were sitting in car seats, but the 5-year-old was unrestrained and the 3-year-old was not properly restrained and were ejected from the vehicle.

At the time of the crash the weather was clear and the road was dry. The speed limit at the spot of the road is 75 mph.
