Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Crash North of Ballinger

 

BALLINGER – A San Antonio man standing in a barrow ditch while his vehicle was being serviced was struck and killed Monday evening north of Ballinger.  

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 57-year-old Rigoberto Alvarez-Ortega of San Antonio was standing in a barrow ditch along SH-158 about seven miles north of Ballinger.  At the same time, a 2011 Lincoln MKZ driven by 82-year-old Billy Jack Leach of Canyon Lake was southbound.  

The report says the driver of the Lincoln veered off the roadway into the barrow ditch striking Alvarez-Ortega and the fence.  Alvarez-Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Lane Pinckney at 9:59 p.m. Monday.  

Leach was uninjured in the crash.
