Bystanders Help Police Subdue Driver After Wild Chase on Knickerbocker Rd.

SAN ANGELO, TX – Several witnesses including a San Angelo LIVE! reporter helped police subdue a driver responsible for a four-car crash on Knickerbocker Rd. near Bentwood Friday afternoon.

According to our reporters on the scene, on at around 1 p.m. Friday San Angelo Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Knickerbocker Rd. and Valleyview Blvd. for a major crash.

Upon arrival, the crew found a three-vehicle crash involving a yellow Ford Bronco, a black Chevrolet Camaro, and a blue mid-sized SUV. Shortly after the crash, a white Honda blew through the scene at a high rate of speed, left the roadway, and crashed into a telephone pole snapping it in half.

The investigating officer said the crash occurred following a road rage incident on Loop 306. Reporters confirmed that the Bronco was chasing the Honda after the Honda "clipped" the Bronco on the loop.

The driver of the Bronco pursued the Honda down Knickerbocker toward the lake. When the Bronco reached the intersection, the driver ran a red light and crashed with the SUV and Camaro. Believing the coast was clear, the Honda turned around and headed back into town.

As the Honda approached the crash scene, it recklessly passed through the area, even driving into oncoming traffic. At some point, the driver lost control of the car, went off the road, and crashed into the telephone pole. A witness on the scene confirmed with San Angelo LIVE! that the car was airborne before hitting the pole.

Following the crash, the driver of the Honda attempted to flee but was subdued by our reporter and another bystander, who assisted the police. The driver was then taken to the hospital with injuries, the extent of which is currently unknown.

The driver of the Bronco has been cited for running the red light while the driver of the Honda has been charged with failure to maintain one lane and failing to stop and render aid following a crash. San Angelo Police Officer Kvittem confirmed that additional charges may be filed against the Honda driver.

A nixel alert was issued regarding the crash. The following is the alert:

The crash was cleared after an hour of investigation.
