Lightning Strikes Man & Child During Thunderstorm

MERIDIAN, TX – A Central Texas man and his child were struck by lighting during Monday night's storms across Central Texas.

According to multiple reports, on May 15, 2023, deputies with the Bosque County Sheriff's Office and North Bosque Emergency Medical Services were called out to an undisclosed location for the report of two people being struck by lightning.

When they arrived, the first responders discovered an unidentified man and his 6-year-old child that had been struck. The man was pronounced dead on the scene while the child was unresponsive but breathing. 

The 6-year-old as taken to the hospital but the status of the child is unknown at this time.

The National Weather Service confirms that the odds that one will be struck by lightning in the U.S. during one's lifetime are 1 in 15,300. On average, 270 people in the U.S. are struck per year, and only about 10 percent of that number die from the event. Around the world, approximately 2,000 people are struck by lightning every year.
