LAS VEGAS— A former NFL Las Vegas Raider and Alabama football player has pleaded guilty after causing a crash that killed a woman and her dog two years ago.
Henry Ruggs, 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. In November 2021, Ruggs was driving under the influence at twice the legal limit and at speeds that reached 156 mph. In a residential area a few miles from the Strip, Ruggs slammed his Corvette into a Toyota RAV4, causing the vehicle to burst into flames.
The 23-year-old woman driving the Toyota, Tina Tintor, and her dog, were killed as a result. Ruggs did decelerate from 156 to 127 mph right before the crash.
Ruggs was a first-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and only played for one and a half seasons before the crash.
Ruggs will remain under house arrest until his sentencing hearing with is currently set to take place on August 9, 2023. He faces three to 10 years in prison.
