Crash Shuts Down Nasworthy Bridge on Super Bowl Sunday

SAN ANGELO, TX — A single vehicle crash on the Nasworthy Bridge sent one to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

According to reporters on scene, on Feb. 12, 2023 at around 2 p.m., officers with the San Angelo Police Department and medics with the San Angelo Fire Department were dispatched to the Lake Nasworthy bridge for the report of a major crash.

When they arrived, the crew discovered a White 1500 Dodge Ram that had crashed into the guard rail on the bridge.

A single occupant was reported to be in the truck. The driver was taken to Shannon Medical Center.

This crash caused southbound traffic to be reduced to one lane.

This bridge goes directly over Lake Nasworhthy. It is considered one of the most scenic stretch of roadways in San Angelo.

Not hard to be distracted by the natural beauty of Lake Nasworthy! That specific stretch has been home to a number of very significant crashes over the years.

I once had a bicycle route that put me on Knickerbocker, over the Nasworthy Bridge, then over the dam to Beautiful Downtown Knickerbocker where I would swing right, head to Mertzon Highway, and then boogie back into town.  The route was about 32 miles.

While I enjoyed the peace and serenity of the entire ride (I did it around sunrise), my favorite part was crossing over Nasworthy.  At that time of day the water was typically like glass... the kind of water I used to love skiing on with my O'Brien slalom.

Nasworthy does have its charms.
