DPS: Driver Killed in Fiery Crash in Southern Taylor County Sunday

 

LAWN, TX – One driver was killed and another injured in a fiery nighttime crash on US-84 in southern Taylor County Sunday evening. 

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 75-year-old Juan Lucio Torres of Lawn, TX was driving a 1999 Dodge Pickup in the southbound lane of US-84 1/2 a mile north of Lawn.  

The crash investigation shows that the pickup was stopped in the southbound lane of the roadway in the dark with no lights on.  

35-year-old Brittany Amber Esquivel was also southbound on US-84 driving a 2010 Mercury MKS four door passenger car.  

Esquivel's vehicle crashed into the stopped pickup pushing both vehicles off the roadway.  Both vehicles caught fire.  

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Earl Donnell.  Esquivel was transported by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center with serious injuries in stable condition.  

Esquivel was wearing a seatbelt.  It is unknown if Torres was wearing a seatbelt.  The weather was clear and dry at the time of the crash.
