UPDATE: Jeep Driver Turns in front of 71-year-old Biker Injuring Him Severely

 

SAN ANGELO – The driver of a Jeep SUV turned left in front of a man on a motorcycle Friday afternoon causing a serious crash that left the biker seriously injured.  

As we reported from the crash scene, the impact through the biker off the Harley and he suffered head and other injuries when he hit the pavement. 

Here is the update including the ages of the driver and the biker from the San Angelo Police Department: 

On 7/22/22 around 3:57pm, Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East 19th and Armstrong in reference to a Major Motor Vehicle Accident. Upon arrival, Officers observed that the collision involved a Jeep SUV and a dark colored motorcycle.

Officers began administering first aid to the rider of the motorcycle (71-year-old male) until medics with the SAFD were able to assist. The male was then transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as a 20-year-old female and it was learned that she did not have any injuries from the collision.

SAPD’s Motor, Crime Scene, and Criminal Investigation Division arrived on scene to assist with investigating the accident. It learned that prior to the collision, the Jeep was traveling South on Armstrong toward East 19th and the Motorcycle was traveling North on Armstrong toward East 19th street. It was learned that the Jeep entered into the intersection and had begun to turn East onto East 19th when the Motorcycle collided with the front left corner of the Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep was cited for “Failing to Yield the Right of Way while Turning Left” and was released on scene.

This accident is still currently under investigation and further information will be released at a later point in time.
