Young Child Among Victims Killed in Fatal Crash Near Cross Plains

 

CROSS PLAINS, TX – A single vehicle crash near Cross Plains Sunday took the life of a 41-year-old woman and a young child.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Mar. 6 at around 9:50 a.m., troopers with the Texas DPS were dispatched to State Highway 279, 3.7 miles south of Cross Plains, for the  report of a major crash.

When they arrived, the troopers discovered a 2002 Chevrolet pickup that had crashed and rolled into the bar ditch.

The pickup was occupied by four people, Kendra L. Cowan, 41, of Brownwood, Rachel Nandin, 42, of Brownwood, and two children from Brownwood. DPS confirmed that Cowan and one of the children died in the crash and were prounounced dead at the scene. Both of the bodies were taken to the Davis Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood.

The other two passengers were taken to Hendrick Medical Center with stable but incapacitating injuries. 

The investigation revealed that the pickup was traveling South on SH 279 where if veered right and into the bar ditch. The driver, Cowan, appeared to have over corrected to the left where the vehicle rolled over. No occupant was wearing their seatbelt.

At the time of the crash the weather was partly cloudy and the road was dry.
