LONDON, TX — A young girl was killed in an icy, horrific crash Thursday night near London, TX.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Feb. 3 at around 9 p.m. troopers with the DPS were dispatched to U.S. Hwy 377 for the report of a major crash.
When they arrived, the troopers found a 2019 International Truck Tractor hauling a trailer and a 2011 Yukon GMC that had crashed in the middle of the roadway.
Paramedics were immediately called to the scene as all five occupants in the Yukon were ejected.
Three of the five occupants suffered incapacitating injuries, the driver, although not incapacitated, was taken to the Kimble hospital, and one female child occupant was pronounced dead on scene.
An Arizona news outlet claims the Yukon was in Texas for a club volleyball tournament.
The preliminary investigation showed that the Semi was traveling southbound on US 377 towing a semi-trailer. The Yukon was traveling northbound on US 377. The Yukon began to spin due to ice covering the road. The Yukon traveled into the southbound lane of US 377 and struck the Semi in the front.
The Yukon was struck in the rear driver side, spun the vehicle and ejecting the unrestrained occupants. The Yukon came to rest facing South in the northbound ditch.
At the time of the crash, the road was icy while the weather conditions that were clear. The speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
