22-Year-Old Woman Not Wearing a Seatbelt Killed in New Year's Day Rollover Crash

OZONA, TX – A 22-year-old passenger was killed in a rollover crash near Ozona on Saturday morning.

According to the crash report, on Jan. 1 at around 8:30 a.m., troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to I-10, approximately five miles east of Ozona, for the report of a roll over crash.

When they arrived at the scene, the troopers found a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze towing a trailer that had rolled into the barrow ditch.

The Cruze had two occupants in it. The driver of the Cruze was taken to Shannon Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. The passenger, Victoria Garcia, 22, of San Antonio, was killed in the crash. In the report the trooper confirmed she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers confirmed that the investigation showed that the Cruze was traveling westbound on I-10. The driver of the Cruze failed to drive in a single lane, veering left towards the center median. The driver overcorrected the wheel to the right traveling through both lanes towards the northside barrow ditch. Once inside the barrow ditch the Cruze entered a side-skid before rolling multiple times.

At the time of the crash the weather condition was clear and the road was dry. The posted speed limit in this area is 80 mph.
