Head-On Crash Leaves Two Dead On Saturday

ABILENE, TX –– A two-vehicle crash left two people dead on Saturday morning.

According to DPS, troopers were dispatched to mile marker 272 on I-20 for a crash involving a Toyota Tundra and a Ford F-150.

The preliminary investigation revealed 78-year-old Samuel D. Caldwell of Sonora was traveling east in the Tundra when he collided head-on with 50-year-old Darrell V. Mills of Abilene traveling westbound.

According to officials, Caldwell was traveling in the wrong lane, causing the crash.

Both vehicles would then come to a stop in the center median, with the F-150 catching on fire and completely burning.

Both Caldwell and Mills were declared dead at the scene. DPS confirmed both drivers were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
