UPDATE: DPS Confirms Two Fatalities In Major Crash Involving Andrews ISD School Bus

BIG SPRING, TX- An Andrews ISD bus transporting band students was involved in a major crash on I-20 Friday evening. Andrews High School was in a playoff football game against Springtown High School in Sweetwater this evening.

According to DPS, a car was going the wrong way on a service road and hit the Andrews bus. The DPS has confirmed multiple fatalities and they do not have an exact number at this time.

Andrews ISD has released the following statement:

“The bus had members of the marching band on board. Administrators are working to serve the needs of our students and their families. We cannot confirm anything else at this time.”

UPDATE @ 6:45 p.m.

Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker confirmed to local media that students aboard the bus are being held at the Athletic Training Center at Big Spring High School. The school will serve as a reunification site for family members who arrive to pick up the students.

At least two fatalities have been confirmed and while their identities have not been released, DPS officials stated the victims were not students. Several individuals were airlifted from the scene, but the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Local media reports indicate the eastbound traffic on 1-20 from Big Spring to Midland remains backed up as first responders continue to work the crash.

I cannot even imagine being in a situation like that. I hope all involved will heal, mentally and physically, very quickly and that they all receive the support they will so desperately need.
