SAN ANGELO, TX – Shortly before 8:00 p.m., SAPD officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Edmund Blvd for reports of a major motor vehicle crash with multiple passengers injured.
According to reporters at the scene, the head-on collision involved a Chevy Tahoe and a Chevy pickup truck.
Multiple patients were observed being treated for injuries by EMS and later transported to Shannon for treatment –– including several children.
The crash occurred in front of Kirby Park where several families and kids were participating in football practice.
The San Angelo Police Department issued a Nixel warning asking drivers to avoid the area between Wilson Street to North Bryant as they worked to treat patients and clear the scene.
No official information regarding the cause of the crash or the number of injured passengers has been released at this time.
UPDATE 10:30 p.m.
The San Angelo Police Department has confirmed that one passenger has died in the crash.
They also said that seven total people were transported to Shannon with apparent injuries.
Initial findings show police that the White Silverado pickup was traveling westbound on Edmund Blvd. while the Black Chevy Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Edmund Blvd. For an unknown reason the Black Chevy Tahoe crossed over the center yellow stripe into oncoming traffic and collided with the White Silverado pickup head-on.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
