16-Year-Old Girl Killed in Rollover Over Crash

TYE, TX – A 16-year-old girl was killed Wednesday after a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer rolled over while exiting IH-20.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Jun 23 at 2:07 p.m., troopers with the Texas DPS were dispatched to the I-20, about .1 miles West of Tye, for the report of a major crash.

When the troopers arrived they discovered a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer that had rolled over and had landed on its roof.

Inside of the vehicle were three 16-year-olds, an 18-year-old, and a 38-year-old. A 16-year-old female passenger from Trent was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four passengers including the 16-year-old driver were taken to Hendrick Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers determined that the Mountaineer was traveling East on IH-20 where the driver lost control while exiting the highway. The vehicle swerved back and forth, then rolled over several times coming to rest on its top in the eastbound lanes of IH-20.
