WATCH: Medical Condition May Have Caused Crash

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The driver of a pickup that crashed on Sherwood Way Wednesday morning might have suffered a heart attack before the crash. 

According to San Angelo Police Department traffic division investigating officer Welch, the Ram 2500 flatbed was eastbound on Sherwood Way when it veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail and a street light pole in the at the intersection of Southwest Blvd.

Officer Welch said witnesses indicated the driver had a history of heart issues and may have had a heart attack.  The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance.  Welch said he would have to interview the driver at the hospital to make sure he had a medical issue.  

Welch says the driver seemed unresponsive at the scene.  

AEP crews were on scene securing the light pole and a power line across the street.
