According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Jan 9, troopers with the DPS were dispatched to FM 765, 10 miles East of San Angelo, for the report of a rollover crash.

When the troopers arrived they discovered a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup and towed trailer that was rolled over on the side of the road.

The only person in the truck was the driver, Derell Payne, 59, of San Angelo, who was pronounced dead on scene by Justice of the Peace Fred Buck.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was heading westbound on FM 765 towards San Angelo. The truck drifted off of the roadway to the south, struck a culvert causing the truck and towed trailer to rollover.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt during the crash. The weather was clear and the road was dry.
