Driver Takes Own Life Following Fatal Crash on US 277

 

HASKELL, TX – A driver took his own life following a fiery crash near Haskell, TX that killed several people. 

According to the Texas Depeartment of Public Safety, on Nov. 24, troopers with the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to US 277, 1 mile south of Haskell, for the report of a major crash.

When the troopers arrived, they found a 2013 Mazda MA 5 and a 2013 Ford Pickup that had crashed in the middle of the roadway. 

In the Mazda were three passengers. Two adults identified as Jose Minan, 48, and Sara Minan, 44, of Austin were pronounced dead on the scene. A nine-year-old child was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene where he was treated and released. 

In the pickup, Michael Bowman, 55, of Goree, survived the crash but took his own life by a self inflicted gun shot wound according to the DPS. 

Further investigation revealed that the Mazda was traveling South on US 277 while the pickup was traveling North. The pickup failed to yield right of way turning left towards Bus. 277 and crashing into the front of the Mazda. The Mazda left the roadway and caught fire. Crash is under investigation. Any further information or requests regarding the driver of the pickup should contact the Haskell County S.O.
