High Winds Allow Grassfire to Burn Nearly 30 Acres

GOLDSMITH, TX -- A grass fire burned nearly 30 acres on Tuesday afternoon in Ector County.

In collaboration with the Odessa Fire Rescue, the Goldsmith Fire Rescue sent units to the scene to stop the fire heading east toward Gardendale.

According to the Goldsmith team, the high winds allowed the fire to spread quickly.

“Oh, a lot of difficulties,” said Firefighter Nathan Washburn. “So, if you notice out here how high the brush is, some of it is up to my waist, and once it’s dry—all of it’s dry—once it sets off it just starts burning.”

The crews were able to put out the fire nearly 30 minutes after arriving at the scene as firefighters continue to monitor the remaining embers.
