Antique Car Involved in Fatal Crash

HAWLEY, TX – A fatal crash occurred Monday night involving a 1930s model car.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Oct. 5 at around 8 p.m., troopers with the DPS were dispatched to US-83, 4.2 miles northeast of Hawley, for the report of a major crash.

When they arrived, troopers found 1930 Ford Model A Coupe and a 2013 Ford Edge that were involved in the crash. The Edge had rolled over in the median.

Both vehicles were only occupied with one passenger. The driver of the Model A was uninjured.

The driver of the Edge, Jeremy D Atchison, male, 32, of Abilene was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. It is unknown if Atchison was wearing a seatbelt the time of the crash.

Further investigation revealed that the Edge was traveling North on US 83 in the outside lane while the Model A was traveling in the same lane ahead of the Edge.  As the Edge approached the Model A it swerved left to avoid crashing into the back of the Model A.  The Edge then struck the Model A, went into a side skid and rolled over into the median.

At the time of the crash the road was dry and the weather was partly cloudy.
