Midnight Boat Crash Severely Injures Seven

BROWNWOOD, TX – An early morning boat crash on Lake Brownwood sent seven people with severe injuries to the hospital on Thursday.

According to KXYL, the major crash occurred just after midnight near the Wild Duck Marina. According to Chief Troy Henderson of the Lake Brownwood Lake Patrol, a “pleasure boat” ran up on a concrete jetty.

The victims were identified four women and three men, ranging in ages from 17 to 24 years of age, who were visiting the lake from the Panhandle. According to Henderson all of the boat occupants suffered head injuries and body lacerations.

Three of the victims were flown from the scene via air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with severe injuries.  Four others were transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center, with two of them later flown to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

No further information has been released concerning the current state of the seven victims, but authorities confirmed all family members have been notified.

The investigation will be led by Game Warden Travis Allen of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and as of this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor. The boat was heavily damaged and will be stored in Brownwood until the investigation is complete.
