DPS: Defective Front Tire May Have Caused Fatal Crash Involving 18-wheeler

COLORADO CITY, TX – A truck driver was killed in a two vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 20 about a mile east of Colorado City.

According to Department of Public Safety trooper Sgt. Fred Biddle, 63-year-old Humberto Ramirez Molina  of Whittier, CA was westbound on I-20 driving a 2012 Freightliner truck towing a trailer.

The 18-wheeler veered into the median, through the cable system, and into the eastbound lanes of IH-20.  A 2016 Buick Verano driven by Shadyne Santrice Pittman, 40, of Hattisburg MS
struck the towed trailer as they crossed the eastbound lanes.  The 18-wheeler went into the barrow ditch and rolled over ejecting the driver.  A defective front tire on the truck may have contributed the crash.

Molina was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pittman was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
