DPS: Woman Struck & Killed by 18-wheeler

BAIRD, TX – A 27-year-old woman was struck and killed on the side of the Interstate highway outside Baird, TX Wednesday evening.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Sgt. Fred Biddle, Joshlyn Ortega of Haltom City was stopped in the median inspecting a flat tire on her Chrysler 300.

A 2011 Freightliner tractor/trailer was westbound on I-20 about 3 miles east of Baird driven by 25-year-old Jorge Alberto Ortiz Torres struck and killed Ortega.

Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Abilene Medical Services.

The fatal crash is under investigation.
