Airmed Helicopter Dispatched to Crash Scene Between San Angelo and Robert Lee

ROBERT LEE, TX – Shannon Medical Center's Airmed-1 was dispatched to a crash scene Sunday afternoon to transport a patient who had been run over by a vehicle.

According to communications between Robert Lee Volunteer Firefighters and EMS, the initial call was to aid a person who had been run over by a vehicle near the intersection of SH-158 and SH-208 near Robert Lee.

When first responders arrived, they allegedly found an individual who was under a vehicle.

Firefighters called for the jaws of life and units from Bronte and other VFDs responded.

First responders on the scene said the location was down a muddy road and was only accessible with four wheel drive vehicles.

Firefighters then canceled the call for the jaws for life saying the individual was not trapped.

Firefighters and EMS on the scene then called for the Airmed-1 helicopter.

Minutes later, Robert Lee EMS said they got the patient to their ambulance and it would be six minutes to the landing zone for the helicopter.

Authorities blocked the roadway so Airmed-1 could land.  Reports say they could see the helicopter circling.

At 1:35 p.m. Sunday afternoon first responders opened the roadways to traffic indicating Airmed-1 was in the air.

This is a developing story.
