WATCH: Another Crash at Temporary Stop Sign Controlled Downtown Intersection

SAN ANGELO, TX – There was another crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of Harris Ave. and Koenigheim.

The busy and dangerous intersection is temporarily controlled by stop signs after a crash took out the traffic signal earlier this month.

According to San Angelo Police Department Traffic Division investigating officer Welch, a Kia SUV was headed east on Harris while a Toyota Highlander was northbound on Koenigheim.

Watch video from the crash scene:

Officer Welch says the driver of the Kia failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign.  The driver of the Toyota entered the intersection with the right of way and crashed into the Kia.

No one was injured.  The driver of the Kia was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way.

They have got to come up with a different resolution to this problem since I have heard it will be about 3 months before the light is repaired. That is not the first wreck. People going East and West may see the stop sign but they do not read the part of the sign telling them the North Lanes have the right away and do not have to stop. One thing I would suggest is to put up temporary like on the East and West side that are the flashing red light that I think run on batteries and solar power. They would help some but not solve the problem. You you have people going north that think they are suppose to stop too. There are signs on the East and West side telling them the north bound lanes are thru traffic but no one pays attention. I work in that area and we see this all day long. Now to the transportation dept, city or whoever decided to do it this way lets see what response we get the the first someone heading east or west does not read the signs and a 18 wheeler goes though since they have the right of way and someone gets killed. I would nearly guarantee it will happen.
