BRECKENRIDGE, TX – An old Jewish synagogue in Breckenridge was destroyed in a Sunday morning fire.
According to KTXS, the Breckenridge Fire Department responded to a call around 5 am and when they arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames on the east end of building and flames shooting through the roof. According to Fire Chief Calvin Chaney, the brick walls had to be torn down because they were very unstable.
A home that was located less than four feet from the synagogue was evacuated after police officers woke them up to alert them of the fire. Firefighters were able to keep the home from catching on fire.
The fire was knocked down in about an hour, but crews remained on scene putting out hot spots until 11:00 a.m.
