WATCH: Woman's Walk To Hospital Ends With Broken Leg

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Police and Fire Department responded to an accident across the street from Shannon Medical Center on Thursday morning.

A pedestrian was crossing Beauregard heading north towards the hospital when a white pickup ran into her.

The pickup was traveling north on Magdalen before attempting to turn left onto Beauregard.

The pedestrian was waiting for the stop light to change until the crosswalk signalled it was safe to cross.  The truck waited for the green light, as well, but failed to yield the right-of-way to the pedestrian crossing the street.

A video from the scene:

The victim was transported to Shannon Emergency Room, and the driver of the pickup was given a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way.

Scanner reports cited the victim suffered a broken lower leg.

As an occasional pedestrian in the downtown area I have been a "target" for reckless drivers who either ignore pedestrians or simply fail to look for us.
I would love to see our police conduct a "sting" in which a plain clothes officer abiding by applicable traffic laws is used to catch and enforce those laws meant to protect pedestrians from close encounters of the vehicular kind.
This could well prove to be a new profit-center for the Municipal Court's easy money fund.

Jus' sayin'.

PEDESTRIANS: BEWARE ! ! !
