SAPD: Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital after Early Morning Fiery Crash

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department has identified the man airlifted during last nights fiery motorcycle crash. 

According to the San Angelo Police Department, Around 1:00 a.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to West 1st Street and North Koenigheim for the report of a single-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.

Arriving officers located Fire Department personnel assisting the driver, Luis Chavez Padilla, who was suffering from burns and incapacitating injuries.

A preliminary crash investigation revealed Chavez Padilla was traveling north on Koenigheim at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle left the east side of the roadway and collided with a light pole that is located just outside the Central Fire Station.

The collision caused the motorcycle to burst into flames. Alcohol was likely a contributing factor to the crash.

Padilla was transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance for initial treatment and was later airlifted to a Lubbock area hospital.
