2 Dudes on a Beer Run Drive off, Knocking Down a Power Line Onto Bell Street

SAN ANGELO, TX — Bell Street was closed for more than an hour Sunday after “two guys in a pickup” ran into guy wire of a utility pole near the Stripes Convenience Store close to the intersection with Rio Concho.

Three witnesses at the scene said they saw two men purchase some beer and chips inside Stripes and when they left, one man of the two who was driving backed into the guy wire and drove off. Shortly after the guy wire was damaged at least three explosions were seen and heard on an electricity transformer mounted on the pole, the witnesses said.

“I don’t know if they’ve found them or are even looking for them,” one witness said of the two men in the truck.

As a result of the damaged guy wire, a live wire for electricity fell on Bell St. Police closed the intersection and diverted traffic onto Rio Concho and Schwartz.

AEP crews are fixing the damage and Bell Street is expected to open before nightfall.
